Well, what do I say? I’m a writer that works for myself (designing websites and writing copy wherever necessary) but have a view to being able to just sit back and do the former, rather than the latter, preferably for for scads-o-cash. I’m an ex IT industry hack (Technical Writer/Tester) with an ingrained hatred of all things Microsoft (other than their keyboards which were actually not that bad, but I won’t subject my pristine white Macbook to the abomination of Microsoft. Get thee behind me Ballmer).
Where was I?
Oh yes, I’m also an advocate of Wiki technology rather than the disappearing-up-its-own-rectal-cavity online help industry personified by hellish monstrosities like RoboHelp and Flare (RoboSchlep and Bleah). You see, the world has moved on from the Table-of-contents and Manually created Index and has embraced the whole concept of a single, all-knowing “search” field (Google anybody?).
It’s my opinion that anything that forces the user into working for the information rather than just giving it to them is asking for trouble, and that no manner of snazzy options you have to dig through a bazillion menus and over-complicated instructions on setting up can save these programmes from the steaming tar-pits that so much bad software has ended up in. It’s only a matter of time kiddies.
As you can potentially tell, I’m a Mac advocate; having passed-over onto the light-side of the Force in around 2001 (after many years lust in the direction of Steve’s finest creations).
